Expanding Zen in US Airports

The trend of yoga and meditation rooms in airports are expanding and stressed out travelers are reaping the rewards. There are now seven airports with designated rooms located in the United States and several international airports including London and Hong Kong. These free spaces not only cater to Yogis but welcome all travelers to enjoy an area where you can simply stretch and get away from the bustle of airport traffic. On a recent trip from San Francisco to Atlanta, my spine graciously thanked me for creating space within my body by utilizing these secret hideaways.

San Francisco International Airport: This was the birth place of the first US airport yoga studio in 2012. This airport has two studios located in Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Mats and foam rollers provided. Open 24 hours. Good job SFO.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport: This airport has two studios located in Terminal D and E. Instructional videos are playing to follow along with and there are rumors that DFW plans to create their own set of videos to accommodate beginners and advanced students. Mats, balls and stretch bands provided. Be sure to look for their guest book to sign and leave good wishes to fellow wanderlust yogis.

Chicago O’Hare Airport: Located on the mezzanine level of the Terminal 3 Rotunda, near the urban garden. A video monitor offers yoga techniques and tranquil nature scenes to wash the stress away. Mats provided. Open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Chicago Midway Airport: Located in Concourse C. A video monitor offers yoga tips. Mats provided. Open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Burlington International Airport, Vermont: Located on the second floor, near a family bathroom with shower amenities. Also check out the Green Roof garden space, situated atop the parking garage to walk your worries away and stretch your muscles. Mats provided.

Albuquerque International Sunport New Mexico: Looking for quiet time away from the hustle and bustle, travelers can take advantage of the Meditation room.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport: Located in Terminal 2, pre-security, is a Meditation room open 24hrs. Chairs and prayer mats are provided.
